Micro-distilleries
During the 2009 session of the Iowa General Assembly, House File 569 was introduced to encourage and promote development of distilleries in Iowa. The bill, however, raised many questions and ultimately stalled out in subcommittee. Support for micro-distilleries was apparent and the Iowa Alcoholic Beverages Division was encouraged to identify a workable solution to the concerns raised. In an effort to reach consensus, the Iowa Alcoholic Beverages Commission launched the Iowa Native Distillery Forums, a series of public meetings on the subject.
The forums were held:
Thursday, August 27th, 1:30PM at the State Capitol (Room 22), East 9th & Grand, Des Moines, Iowa
Wednesday, September 9th, 1:30PM at Templeton Rye, 209 East 3rd Street, Templeton, Iowa
Thursday, October 22nd, 1:30PM at Cedar Ridge, 501 7th Ave SE, Cedar Rapids, Iowa
Thursday, November 19th, 1:30PM at the Division’s offices, 1918 SE Hulsizer Road, Ankeny, Iowa
After careful deliberation, including consideration of public input received at the forums, the Commission made 10 recommendations to the Iowa legislature.
